FREE Hearing Screenings at Bay State Savings Bank Yield Sound Results

May 22, 2015

WORCESTER, MA / May 2015 – If you haven’t heard, May is “Better Hearing and Speech Month.” To celebrate, Bay State Savings Bank sponsored FREE Public Hearing Screenings in several of its branch locations in collaboration with Worcester State University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center. The screenings, which were performed by licensed and certified audiologists on a brand new Audiometer purchased for WSC by Bay State Savings Bank as part of the sponsorship, took place in early May at the Grafton Street and Holden branches.

Approximately 30 people were screened during the two 3-hour sessions. In addition to the screenings, participants received testing documentation and a consult with the audiologist, along with a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card, courtesy of the Bank. Tina Coderre, M.A., CCC-A, Audiologist at WSU’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center, was thrilled with the turn-out. “It’s nice to see that people are concerned enough about their hearing to come and have the assessment done,” she said. “A number of the individuals we screened in the Bay State branches had hearing issues of which they were unaware. Providing them with appropriate education and referral sources is an important next step. I’m very pleased we were able to assist so many people in just two sessions."

“We are very excited to partner with Worcester State University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center to offer FREE hearing screenings at our branches,” said Diane Giampa, SVP/Human Resources & Marketing at Bay State Savings Bank. “Through these screening sessions we have helped to provide people in our local community with an opportunity to hear to their full potential.”

“On behalf of the entire WSU family, we are so appreciative of Bay State Savings Bank’s very generous support and community partnership, added Jane Grant, Worcester State University’s Director of Leadership Giving. “With Bay State Savings Bank’s commitment to the University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center and the community at large, together we are able to help make a difference to those who may need assistance managing hearing loss or speech-language disorders.”

WSU’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center has been serving people with communication disorders and/or differences for more than 35 years. The Center offers comprehensive hearing evaluations; hearing aids; communication therapy and aural rehabilitation. For more information, call 508-929-8055 or visit:
