Bay State Savings Bank to Conduct Free Hearing Screenings!
May 12, 2014
The screenings, which are provided by Licensed and Certified Audiologists, will take place on Friday, May 2nd from 12pm – 6pm at the Auburn branch (123 Auburn Street, Auburn) and on Saturday, May 3rd from 9am – 12pm at the Mill Street branch (275 Mill Street, Worcester). The public is invited.
In addition to the hearing screenings, there will be a prize drawing and giveaways for those who have their hearing checked. “We are very excited to be collaborating with Worcester State University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center to offer FREE hearing screenings at our branches,” said Diane Giampa, SVP/Human Resources & Marketing at Bay State Savings Bank. “Many individuals have hearing issues and perhaps can’t afford an evaluation or don’t know where to have a screening done. Through these screening sessions we will be helping to provide people in our local community with an opportunity to hear to their full potential.”
Some indicators that you might need to have a hearing evaluation include:
- Asking others to repeat
- Finding it difficult to follow a conversation in a noisy environment
- Feeling others are mumbling or not speaking clearly
- Needing the TV louder than others
- Having difficulty hearing on the phone
- Avoiding situations or feeling embarrassed because of hearing difficulties
“We certainly encourage everyone to have a hearing evaluation, but in particular, anyone experiencing these symptoms to attend the FREE Hearing Screenings at Bay State Savings Bank,” said Ann T. Veneziano-Korzec, M.S., CCC-SLP and Director of the Speech-Language-Hearing Center at WSU. “There are so many negative influences on our hearing these days – loud music; heavy equipment; headphones, etc. If people aren’t aware that they are doing damage to their hearing, they can’t protect themselves. We can provide the necessary education and safeguards for individuals to keep their hearing for a long time.”
“On behalf of the entire WSU family, we are grateful for Bay State Savings Bank’s community partnership and very generous support, added Jane Grant, Worcester State University’s Leadership Gifts Officer. “With Bay State Savings Bank’s commitment to our University’s Worcester State University Speech-Language-Hearing Center and the community at large, together we are able to help make a difference to those who may have a hearing or speech issue.”
