Bay State Savings Bank's 11th Annual Dig for Cash Event Benefits Edward Street Child Services' "Day of Play"

April 10, 2015

WORCESTER, MA - April 2015 – On Friday, March 6th, Bay State Savings Bank conducted its 11th Annual $5,000 Dig for Cash. The event benefited Bay State Savings Bank’s Champions for Children initiative, established in 2004 to support local organizations that provide a wide range of aid and opportunities for the community’s youth.

Sponsored in part by WXLO Radio and Wachusett Mountain, the $5000 Dig for Cash took place at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA. Lift tickets for the event, which typically cost over $40 for 6 hours of night skiing, were offered in advance at all Bay State Savings Bank branches for a $25 donation to Bay State Savings Bank’s Champions for Children honoree. In addition to reduced lift ticket prices, $5,000 Dig for Cash attendees had the opportunity to win a total of $5,000 in cash, prize give-aways and gift cards.

This year’s Champions for Children honoree and recipient of the event proceeds is Edward Street Child Services, a private, non-profit agency that collaboratively promotes the growth of children and strengthens families by improving the delivery of early learning services in Worcester. The money raised will help support the organization’s “Day of Play” event in June.Established on the premise that the parent is the child’s first teacher, this free event provides an opportunity for parents to interact with their children while participating in activities that promote specific skill development. The event takes place in Elm Park and is supported throughout the year with a monthly newsletter featuring advice, resources and activities that encourage parent-child bonding and prepare children for school success.

“Bay State Savings Bank applauds the efforts of Edward Street Child Services and is very happy to support them as they work with local families and their children to give them the best start possible,” said Diane Giampa. “The ‘Day of Play’ provides a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together building positive relationships and important life skills. We are proud to be a part of that.” The event raised $4,000.00 to benefit Edward Street Child Services.
